Dangers of Flood Waters

11/1/2021 (Permalink)

Floods and flash floods are very scary to experience just witnessing the power that water has, but unfortunately that’s not the only danger that flood waters pose. Besides being swept away by rushing water, here are some reasons why you should do your best to avoid flood waters.

Flash floods can happen when storm and sewer drains can’t handle the volume of water coming through them and get backed up. This means that the water you see on the streets isn’t just rainwater but is actually also wastewater from the sewer backups and can contain a whole mess of bacteria and other contaminants.

Additionally, water coming from waterways that have overflowed and spilled into the streets and sidewalks is untreated and can contain dead animals and animal waste, dirt, trash, and anything else left on the ground to be washed away in the water.

SERVPRO of Chesapeake South's team of professionals is specially trained in handling these biohazards, which is why you should give us a call as soon as you notice any flood damage to your home. We’ll do our best to help make it “Like it never even happened.”
